Southeast Alaska is secluded from the rest of the state by mountains and the Wrangell-St.Elias National park and preserve which is larger than the states of Vermont and Rhode Island combined. Though being very large this park only has two main roads in and out but is covered in small game trails leading to secluded places that have spectacular views if you can find them. To the northeastern side of the region the Coast Mountains sit with the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical park on its shoulder. The park is dedicated to protecting the trails, towns, and homes of the brave prospectors that helped make this state. The glacier bay national park and preserve sits on the coast and helps preserve the ice-fields as well as the glacier rivers and lakes. The Sitka National Historical Park and Preserve works to preserve the native artwork and establishments. It is also the oldest national park and is a monument to remember the battle of Sitka, The last major conflict between Europeans and American Indians. The Tongass National Forest is Alaska's very own temporal Rain Forest and provides a major source of income for the state.
