Juneau. Juneau is one of the major points of interest in the southeast and also Alaska's capital. Juneau became the territorial capital of Alaska in 1906 and the state capital in 1959. Juneau was the first city established after the U.S purchased Alaska from Russia. Juneau was the original fishing grounds of the Tlingit Indians. Juneau was a boomtown during the klondike goldrush then it became a major center for mining.
